The European Ocean Observing System, EOOS, is a coordinating framework designed to align and integrate Europe’s ocean observing capacity for the long term; to promote a systematic and collaborative approach to collecting information on the state and variability of our seas and oceans; and to underpin sustainable development, protection and conservation of the marine environment and its resources.
EOOS governance includes:
- Steering Group: top level of the EOOS governance approving all decisions;
- Advisory Committee: advises the Steering Group, bringing together a broader stakeholder base;
- Resource Forum: represents the ministries and funding organizations of ocean observations in Europe;
- Operations Committee: represents the diversity of the ocean observing implementers at national, regional and pan-European levels.
EuroGOOS and European Marine Board provide in-kind support towards the operations of the EOOS governance bodies. EuroGOOS coordinates the EOOS communications.
